Prosper’s Automatic Gate Requirements
Prosper is one of the North Texas towns with clearly written rules for access-controlled gates, and they matter for every HOA, apartment, commercial and private gate that crosses a fire lane or access drive. Based on the town’s published gate access control submittal guidelines, Prosper expects:
- A separate permit for each automatic gate. An approved site plan does not count as the gate permit.
- A Knox key switch (KS2 model) for fire department access, mounted about 5½ feet above grade below an “FD ACCESS” sign.
- Fire override that bypasses everything else: when the key switch is activated, it overrides occupant controls and loop systems and holds the gate open.
- Power-failure release: an operator whose drive gear disengages on power failure, so the gate can be opened by hand.
- Full fire lane width: the clear opening cannot be narrower than the required fire lane or access drive.
